Lumaris Tape Light in Austin
Tunable white linear lighting for cabinets, coves, shelves, and closets, designed and programmed with your Lutron system by Smarter Homes.

Architectural tape light that joins your Lutron system
Lumaris is Lutron's field-cut LED tape for accent lighting: under cabinets, in coves, on shelves, in vanities, and in closets. It is tunable white with warm dim, so the light moves from an incandescent glow to bright white, and it is controlled by the same system as your shades, keypads, and scenes.
Tunable white
2-channel tape with 90+ CRI and about 200 lumens per foot (Lutron specifications). The tunable white range is 1,800K to 4,000K.
Warm dim
Dims like an incandescent lamp, shifting warmer as it dims. Lutron states Lumaris, Ketra, and Finiré use the same default warm-dim curves, so mixed rooms read as one light.
Smooth to 0.1%
Continuous, flicker-free dimming from 100% down to 0.1% of measured light output. Tunable-white performance is maintained from 100% to 1%.
Field cut
Cut every 2 in, then reconnect with tape-to-wire adapters to turn curves and corners.
Clear Connect Type X
Wireless control from a controller that has the LED driver built in, so there is no separate remote driver to hide.
Whole-system scenes
Works with HomeWorks QSX and RadioRA 3, so linear light follows the same scenes and schedules as everything else.
Three parts per run
Each Lumaris run is a tape light, a wireless controller with integrated drivers, and a power supply. Plan the runs before the cabinet shop and drywall finish.
- Tape: 16.4 ft or 98.4 ft reels, low-voltage 24V, 2-in cut points.
- Controller: one controller drives up to 16.4 ft of tape, whether in one piece or split with cables. Lutron does not allow longer runs per controller.
- Power: a plug-in 36 W supply for one controller, or a hardwired power interface that feeds up to three controllers and 48 ft of tape.
- Finish: aluminum channel and lens are sold by others, so we select them with the cabinet or millwork design.

Where linear light does the most
Lumaris is easiest to judge on real surfaces. The first image is Lutron's kitchen example; the second is a Barton Creek project, and a Barton Creek pantry is just above. Want to see it lit? Book a showroom visit.

Good places for Lumaris
- Under-cabinet and backsplash light in kitchens
- Cove and ceiling-edge light
- Shelves, display niches, and bar backs
- Toe-kick and pathway light
- Vanities and mirror frames
- Walk-in closets and wardrobes
Lutron rates the tape for indoor dry and damp locations. It lists no IP rating and does not state wet-location use, so we keep it out of showers, outdoor soffits, and other wet areas.
Lumaris, Ketra linear, or custom-built linear
We specify linear light by room, budget, and how much tuning the client wants.
| Option | Color | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Lumaris tape | Tunable white with warm dim, no color | Accent runs in rooms that should follow whole-home scenes and sun tracking. This is our standard linear. |
| Ketra linear | Full tunable white; Ketra fixtures also offer color | Rooms where linear must match Ketra cans exactly, or where color matters. |
| Custom-built, fixed color temperature | One color temperature chosen at install | Large runs on a tighter budget where the client accepts a single default, such as a warm evening setting. The savings are large, but it gives up tuning through the Lutron ecosystem. |
We have built linear by hand when the geometry required it, including strips that sit behind the hinges of glass cabinet doors so no strip is visible. See the Austin home case study. Related: Finiré for retrofit lamps and Ketra for ceiling fixtures.
Lumaris FAQ
What is Lumaris?
Lumaris is Lutron's field-cut LED tape light with tunable white and warm dim. It uses a wireless controller with built-in drivers and connects to Lutron HomeWorks QSX and RadioRA 3 systems.
Does Lumaris change color?
The Lumaris we specify is tunable white only, so it adjusts from warm to cool white and does not produce color. Lutron also lists an RGB plus tunable white version; ask us if you want color accents.
How much tape can one controller run?
Up to 16.4 ft per wireless controller. Lutron does not allow longer runs per controller, to keep dimming consistent. Longer runs use more controllers.
How is Lumaris powered?
Each controller runs on 24V DC. A plug-in 36 W supply feeds one controller. A hardwired power interface feeds up to three controllers and 48 ft of tape, and runs on 120V or 277V for indoor use.
Does Lumaris dim smoothly?
Yes. Lutron specifies continuous, flicker-free dimming down to 0.1%, with tunable-white performance maintained from 100% to 1%.
Will Lumaris match my Ketra lights?
Lutron states the default warm-dim curves match across Lumaris, Ketra, and Finiré, so they read as one light in a mixed room. Ketra is more powerful and precise at holding a set color temperature, and devices with different color-temperature ranges will not match exactly at every dim level.
Can Lumaris go in a bathroom or outdoors?
Lutron rates it for indoor dry and damp locations and gives no IP rating, so we do not use it in wet areas or outdoors.
Do I need channel and a lens?
Usually yes for a clean line. Aluminum channel and lens are sold separately by others, and many third-party extrusions work if the connector fits. We select them with your cabinet or millwork plans.
